We are three lovely ladies who love to read historical fiction, and old fiction. (And yes, we are emphatic about the difference there.) We’re going to be writing about the books we read, and how our relationships and lives are influenced by those books, or sometimes the other way ’round.
We hope you enjoy our musings, and we look forward to reading from you in our comments.
According to Encyclopedia Britannica: “Bluestocking, any of a group of ladies who in mid-18th-century England held “conversations” to which they invited men of letters and members of the aristocracy with literary interests. The word has come to be applied derisively to a woman who affects literary or learned interests. The Bluestockings attempted to replace social evenings spent playing cards with something more intellectual. The term probably originated when one of the ladies, Mrs. Vesey, invited the learned Benjamin Stillingfleet to one of her parties; he declined because he lacked appropriate dress, whereupon she told him to come “in his blue stockings”—the ordinary worsted stockings of the day … ”
Cornflower
Favorite book(s): Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen; The Unlikely Spy by Daniel Silva
Favorite quote: “Follow your bliss.” – Joseph Campbell
Favorite historical figure: Lois Long, got to love a flapper!
Time period you wish you lived in: I’m pretty fond of modern times what with indoor plumbing, ease of travel and the magic that is the internet. However, if I was wealthy, the Renaissance would be beautiful!
Favorite fashion of the past: The wicked high, elaborate wigs of the 1770s. I wouldn’t necessarily want to wear one, as they look very uncomfortable, but they are epic!
Celebrity crush: Daniel Craig (Also subject to change, but you’ve got to love a Bond.)
Literary crush: Ron Weasley
Stockings or tights?: Stockings! Way sexier, and they’re not too big on me like tights usually are.
About Me: I like too-sweet coffee and long walks with my dog, whom I named for a favorite literature heroine. I like spicy food that makes me cry, and awesome explosive action movies. I am a hopeful romantic.

Favorite book(s): Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Favorite quote: “Marilla, isn’t it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?” Anne Shirley, Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
Favorite historical figure: Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Time period you wish you lived in: Not really a period, but the general pioneer period, ranging from the Oregon Trail to the early Little House books. When I was younger my friend and I would play pioneers in the woods behind our elementary school, and I made my family take a road trip along the Oregon Trail. By the way, in some areas, you can still see the tracks. So cool!
Favorite fashion of the past: Hats. We should all wear more hats (winter ski/skullcaps don’t count).
Celebrity crush: Jake Gyllenhaal. I also have a major girl crush on Emma Stone.
Literary crush: Rhett Butler
Stockings or tights?: Tights. They come in such pretty patterns!
About Me: I like to bake my friends tasty treats, mainly cupcakes, but nothing with fruit. Unless it’s pie. I’m happiest near water, preferably water I can swim in, but rivers like the Thames and Charles are nice too. I’ve traveled to almost all 50 states, and lived in 3. My goal is to check off the last 10-ish by the time I’m 30. Historical fiction is my genre of choice, but I’m obsessed with Harry Potter.

Congrats to the three lovely ladies of 3 Bluestockings. I look forward to more readings and musings.
I was looking for a photo of a princess, and find your blog through it.
Confession 1: I no longer remember why I was looking for that picture, or which picture I clicked on to reach here.
Confession 2: All I know is, I am absolutely impressed with your expressions, and interested in going through more of your blog.
Indigo, the photograph of the bird is beautiful. Sapphire, I’ve dreamt endless dreams of the time when Jane Eyre goes back to Edward after the fire. Cornflower, your favourite quotation could well become mine for the time being. It is simply a must-follow.
I’m so excited to have found your blog. I feel you three might be kindred spirits. I can’t wait to hear more of what you have to say.
And because I love this blog so much I put it down for a blog award!
